DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS

Report of Departmental Orientation

DATE – August 23rd, 2024

The IIS Economics Society of IIS (deemed to be university) organized a memorable departmental orientation for the first-year students on August 23, 2024, at the Ojas Hall. The event was designed to welcome and acclimate the first year students to the Economics department, providing them with essential information, inspiration, and entertainment. The society members warmly greeted the students with a traditional "tika moli" ceremony, setting a positive tone for the day. Dr. Anima Vaish, Associate Professor in the Department of Economics, delivered a comprehensive presentation outlining the course structure, timetables, and faculty members. Her insightful talk helped students understand the department's expectations and opportunities.

This was followed by an engaging session on "Inner Happiness: Coherence between Heart and Mind" led by two highly accomplished representatives of the Heartfulness Institute - Ar. Poonam Jain and Ar. Amit Khandelwal. Through meditation practices and thought-provoking discussions, they encouraged students to cultivate mental well-being, positivity, and success. This session resonated deeply with the students, empowering them to embrace their economic journey with enthusiasm.

To add a dash of fun, the society had planned an array of interactive games and performances. Students enthusiastically participated in the Five-Second Challenge, Simon Says, and "Becho Toh Jaane," a creative selling competition that brought out their innovative and humorous sides. Winners were rewarded, and the energy in the hall was electric. Musical and dance performances by the society members further elevated the excitement, showcasing their talents and teamwork. A journey video highlighting the society's previous achievements and activities was also screened, giving newcomers a glimpse into the department's vibrant culture.

As a token of appreciation, the society gifted each attending student a memento, symbolizing their warm welcome to the Economics family. The event concluded on a high note, with students expressing their gratitude and enthusiasm for the informative and entertaining experience. Overall, the departmental orientation was a resounding success, setting the stage for a promising academic year, fostering a sense of community and belonging among the students.
