A Report

 

The Department of Economics organized an Orientation Session for the first year undergraduate students of both pass course and honours courses on 19th July, 2017 in the AV Hall. It was a two hour interaction session facilitated by the second and third year students. 

The session commenced with the introduction of the faculty members of the department. One of the faculty members, Ms. Vaishali Gupta, displayed a power point presentation that explained the scheme of examinations which includes both Continuous Assessment and Semester end examination. The Continuous or Internal Assessment includes four vital components – C.A. Test (15 marks), attendance (5 marks), class interaction (5 marks) and assignment (5 marks) of which passing marks in pass course is 11 and in honors course is 12. These components make a total of 30. The semester end examination comprises of 70 marks. The passing marks are 25 for pass course and 28 for honors course. One important paper besides theory is Project which is also assessed under same pattern. The presentation also covered the various features of metacampus account of the students.

Apart from the academic pattern, the students were also made aware of the various extra curricular activities organized by the Department like the annual fest ‘ECOSCIENCIA’ at the college campus, educational visits to SEBI, RBI, as well as those in which students participated in other colleges like Eco Fest at LSR College, New Delhi, SYNERGY Fest at St. Xavier’s College, Jaipur. 

 A motivational and inspirational video based on the theme, ‘I Can Do It’, was also presented that showed the achievements of world famous women .

 In order to make session more engaging, the students of B.A. and B.Sc.(Hons.) third year organized games like ‘Guess the Brand name’ using pictures and taglines. Another game ‘Quizonomics’ which had three rounds – Primary, Secondary and Tertiary was also put up by second year students. The first year students were divided into 5 teams and scores were also awarded for the same. The games were played well with enthusiasm.

Towards the end of the session, B.A.(H) and B.Sc.(H) third year students addressed the students and interacted with them. They motivated students to study and explore above the course structure and assured them of proper guidance on the part of faculty members which was appreciated by first year undergraduates. The students applauded and gave positive feedbacks .

Postgraduate Courses

DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS

A Report

On 26 July 2017, The Department of Economics organized an Orientation Program for the new batch of Postgraduate students. The program started with the formal introduction of the students with all the faculty members of the department followed by the presentation by Ms.Vaishali Gupta.

The students were informed regarding the course structure, workshops held during the year, operations of the metacampus account. Guidance was also provided for the preparation of the dissertation which forms an essential part of the Masters Program. The students were also encouraged to participate in all the activities held in the campus of The IIS University.The presentation was then followed by an interactive session among the students of both the previous and final year.

All in all the session was an interesting and interactive event.
