Guest Lecture on Career Opportunities in Economics

The Department of Economics, IIS (deemed to be University) organized a guest lecture on “Career opportunities in Economics” on 19th February 2022 to acquaint the students with career prospects in the field of Economics. There was a participation of 78 students. The Resource person of the lecture was Dr. Deepak Saxena, who is a distinguished personality & who has been counselling students since two decades. Currently, he is the Director of Students Advisory Bureau, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur.

Dr. Saxena laid emphasis on introspection for identifying one's aptitude and searching for a job that aligns with one's aptitude. He enlightened the students with several job roles and their eligibility criteria’s including serving as/in  Reserve Bank of India Economist, Financial Adviser, Economic Consultant, Business Reporter, Indian Administrative Service(IAS), Indian Economic Service(IES) , Indian Statistical Service, Corporate Sector Jobs, Private Banks, UGC-NET and the like. Further, he shed light on points to be kept in mind for acing an interview which is an integral part of every recruitment process.

He also narrated a story of Gautama Buddha and highlighted the fact that how people are afraid to break their shell and come out as pure gold to mark their potential. He focussed on various opportunities in the field of Economics and emphasised on how students can achieve success by introspecting oneself and by knowing their strengths and weaknesses. He talked about private jobs like Personal Investment Advisory, Data Analyst, FRM etc. and gave an in-depth knowledge about all the career options one can opt.

The lecture was full of valuable keynotes that students can use for their future endeavours. The participants had several takeaways. Their keenness was evident from the numerous questions that were asked and addressed towards the end. The session was engaging and informative.
